Travel lightly, leave beautifully

Leave No Trace is about respecting the land, the community, and the travelers who come after you.

The seven principles

1. Plan ahead and prepare

  • Know the rules of your overnight stop
  • Pack what you need to minimize impact
  • Have a backup plan

2. Travel and camp on durable surfaces

  • Park on established pads or gravel
  • Avoid fragile vegetation
  • Don't create new paths or clearings

3. Dispose of waste properly

  • Pack out all trash — including food scraps
  • Use restroom facilities as directed
  • Never dump grey or black water on the ground

4. Leave what you find

  • Don't pick flowers or remove natural objects
  • Leave cultural artifacts undisturbed
  • Take photos, not souvenirs

5. Minimize campfire impact

  • Only have fires where permitted
  • Use existing fire rings
  • Keep fires small and fully extinguish
  • Never leave a fire unattended

6. Respect wildlife

  • Observe from a distance
  • Never feed animals
  • Store food securely
  • Keep pets away from wildlife

7. Be considerate of others

  • Respect quiet hours
  • Keep your site tidy
  • Be a good neighbor to the host and community

ViaPads and sustainability

By choosing community spaces over commercial campgrounds, you support local hosts and reduce the strain on overcrowded parks.
